Game Preview

DePaul (1-0) plays their second of three games on campus at the friendly confines of McGrath-Phillips Arena on Monday night.

The Blue Demons are coming off a 91-72 rout of Texas Pan American on Friday night. That game featured a few bright spots for DePaul. The Demons had balanced scoring with six players finishing in double-figures. Also, senior center Krys Faber had a breakout game with 13 points and seven rebounds.

A Monday night game means a short turnaround for DePaul, but an even shorter turnaround for Mississippi Valley State (0-1) who dropped their season opener at Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon.

The Delta Devils gave the Irish an emotional battle that featured head coach Sean Woods getting ejected from the game after picking up back-to-back technical fouls.

MVSU actually led 50-48 with 12:33 left in the game before succumbing to the Irish, who were playing without team captain Tim Abromaitis.

Four from MVSU reached double figures. Seniors Kevin Burwell and Terrence Joyner led the way with 14 points apiece. Falondo Jones contributed with 13 points and Amos Studivant chipped in with 12 points.

The Delta Devils are a veteran team that will go as far as their seniors will take them this season.

"I saw just a little bit of them on tape," said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell. "They look to be a quick athletic team, so they could make for an exciting game."

MVSU finished with a 13-19 record last season, but is expected to be much better this year and is predicted to finished second in the SWAC conference this season.

In what truly is a small world, Joyner comes from the same Mendenhall, Mississippi high school as DePaul freshman Derrell Robertson.
