Game Preview

DePaul (7-3) plays it's third and final on-campus game of the season on Saturday night against the UAPB Golden Lions (1-7) of the SWAC conference.

The Golden Lions have lost 31 straight non-conference road games and finished 7-24 last season. They are coming off a 87-64 defeat at Akron on Thursday night.

UAPB shot just 33% from the floor and coughed up 19 turnovers in the loss.

Ballhandling has been a concern for UAPB and that doesn't bode well going into a matchup with a DePaul team that likes to press and create turnovers. The Golden Lions are turning the ball over on more than a quarter of their possessions.

UAPB has yet to play a home game. Greg Ivory's team is generating revenue for their athletic program by playing road games at places like Air Force, Akron, Auburn, Cincinnati, DePaul, Michigan, and Oklahoma State. In fact, the Golden Lions don't play a home game until January 14th. If nothing else, they've learned how to live out of hotels and accumulate frequent flyer miles this season.

Pine Bluff's lone win was a 58-56 victory over Isiah Thomas' Florida International squad on a neutral court in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

One positive for UAPB has been the play of senior guard Savalace Townsend. Townsend is currently leading the SWAC in scoring at 18.4 points per game. Townsend has scored in double-digits in every game this season for the Golden Lions.

In a 63-50 loss at Michigan last week, UAPB rallied late in the second half. The Golden Lions went on a 12-1 run to close out the game. Junior guard Lazabian Jackson scored 23 points including six of 11 from beyond the arc for the Lions in that contest.

With a win on Saturday, DePaul will surpass last season's win total. The bottom line on this game is DePaul needs to focus on playing their game and looking to improve going into the Big East conference schedule on January 1st. Incremental improvements in defense and rebounding are key to the Blue Demons having further success this season.
