Penny, Martin Lift DePaul Women

With the Illinois State Redbirds hosting their first-ever ranked team at Redbird Arena, the post-game motto for ISU might be "once is enough."

No. 21 DePaul got a career-high 20 points from Jasmine Penny and Anna Martin added 20 as the Blue Demons beat ISU 73-54 in Normal, Illinois.

Penny shot 8-12 from the field and 4-4 from the line as DePaul shot 47 percent from the field.

Playing their second straight game without an injured Keisha Hampton, the Blue Demons found scoring from seven of their nine players.

With 14:21 left in the game, the Redbirds went on a 7-0 run to close to 44-39 on a jumper by Candace Sykes.

Megan Rogowski (11 points) substituted in at the 14:03 mark and promptly hit back-to-back three-pointers to boost the DePaul lead to 52-39.

DePaul (11-2, 1-0 Big East), winners of three in a row, never trailed in the game. Maureen Mulchrone's three-pointer with 1:58 left in the first half gave the Blue Demons a 32-17 lead.

A layup by Penny pushed the DePaul lead to 65-46 lead with 6:01 left.

Katherine Harry added seven points and eight rebounds for DePaul.

ISU (5-5) was led by Marley Hall's 14 points. The Redbirds' leading scorer, Katie Broadway, scored 11 points, but shot just 4-19 from the field. Notes:

- DePaul's Brittany Hrynko was named Big East Freshman of the Week. She is the second DePaul freshman to receive that honor, with Hampton being the first.
