Durrell McDonald, a 6-2 combo guard from Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada offered up his pledge to join the Blue Demons this fall while on an official visit to DePaul's campus today.
Mc Donald chose DePaul over interest from Penn State.
"DePaul just really fits my style," McDonald told WeAreDePaul.com. "Other schools, I've seen them play and they're good programs and all, but it's just the way that I've come up playing basketball and the way that my team plays now. DePaul just really fits everything that I do."
McDonald, who attended yesterday's game against South Florida, gives DePaul some depth at both guard positions going into next season. He will be needed to help out senior Worrell Clahar and junior Brandon Young in the Blue Demons backcourt in the 2012-13 season.
According to PremierBall.com, McDonald is a "combo guard that can penetrate. Has the ability to penetrate at will. Strong body with broad shoulders looks like he will be a handful after he fills out & hits the weights. Form is not pure but jump shot goes in consistently. Has the strongest handle in the class. McDonald is currently undecided on prep school back East. Defensively he posses the quickest hands and feet in the class at his size. Very explosive when he gets going."
McDonald plans to sign with DePaul during the April signing period. He'll join Jodan Price, a sharpshooter from Detroit, Michigan and DeJuan Marrero, a forward from Gary, Indiana in the class of 2012 for DePaul.
Purnell also has one more scholarship available to use for the spring signing period. He would like to use the scholarship on a big man. 6-9 senior center Chris Obekpa is currently on campus on an official campus and could be that big man.
