Torren Jones Is Lining Up Visits

Class of 2013 big man Torren Jones just wrapped up an official visit to Washington State and has more visits in the works. Hear what the 6-8 forward from La Lumiere has to say about his recruitment in this report.

Torren Jones is navigating the recruiting process and has a top five school list of California, DePaul, Marquette, Missouri, and Washington State. Jones plans on reaching a decision by the November NCAA signing period.

Washington State was the first of the five to receive an official visit.

"I like their location and style of play," Jones said of the WSU program. "They get up and down the floor. That's the way I play. I like the West Coast, so I can get home to Arizona easy."

Jones got a chance to see what the town of Pullman, Washington was like firsthand.

"It's like a small town, so I can focus on basketball there," said Jones.

Next up for Jones is a visit to DePaul this coming weekend, but this won't be his first visit to Chicago.

Jones came to La Lumiere prep school in LaPorte, Indiana for his senior year by way of Arizona, but Chicago was the first home that he ever knew.

"I was born and raised in Chicago," said Jones. "I lived there for the first five years of my life and then I moved to Arizona. My Mom went to school at DePaul. She said to give it a shot and see what they have to offer."

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell has made Jones a top priority for his 2013 recruiting class. He trailed Jones throughout the July evaluation period at AAU tournaments in South Carolina and Las Vegas.

"Coach Purnell or Coach Billy Garrett, they were at every game I played this summer," said Jones.

Jones has already got to know some of the Blue Demons.

"I like their style of play," said Torren. "I like some of their players. I know Billy Garrett, Jr., who is going there next year."

"It should be fun," Jones said of his upcoming visit to the Windy City. "They've got a good coaching staff. It should be a good time."

Jones was also in Chicago back in June where he got a chance to meet his idol – Amar'e Stoudamire at his Nike Skills Academy camp.

"That was a great experience," Jones said of the camp. "I was very thrilled to go to his camp this year. (Amar'e) just said to keep playing hard and work on my game."

Following his visit to DePaul, Jones has a trip planned to Missouri on October 20th.
