Darius Austin rose early in the morning to take a train to the Chicago area to participate in the elite Midwest Invitational Workout camp.

The workout was organized by Mike Procopio, who has worked with professional players such as Kobe Bryant.

"It's good working with Coach Mike," Austin said of the workout. "He's trained some great professional basketball players. I think it's good for us to come and learn from one of the greatest in the country. It was just a good workout today."

A few weeks earlier Austin was in Chicago to visit DePaul University. Darius has been a prime target for Blue Demons coach Oliver Purnell in the class of 2014.

"It was good," Darius said of the visit. "They asked their top priorities in the state of Illinois to come up to their campus, walk around the campus, and watch them practice. They had almost everybody coming back, they should be good. DePaul is a really great school. It's in the city of Chicago. I really like DePaul."

Austin also was able to see the Blue Demons practice at Allstate Arena in Rosemont.

"We went to where they play the games and watched them practice," said Austin. "It's a big facility and the guys got really intense and got after it on defense. It was great. "

Austin has scholarship offers from DePaul, Indiana State, Miami of Ohio, and SIU-Edwardsville.

"(DePaul) was the first high-major school that offered me during my freshman year," said Darius.

Other schools showing interest in Austin include: Arizona State, Boston College, Butler, Louisville, Michigan, Minnesota, Oregon State, St. Louis, Stanford, Tennessee, Virginia Tech, and Xavier.

Darius has previously played in AAU games for the Southwest Illinois Jets and Team D-Rose, but has recently switched to the Illinois Wolves basketball program. Austin will be on the AAU circuit with a talent-laden 17-and-under Wolves team in the spring of 2013.
