Game Preview

If the DePaul Blue Demons were to look in the mirror, they might see the Auburn Tigers.

Both programs are in the beginning of their third year under a new coach. Both have struggled the last two years in their respective conferences, and both are trying to overcome rocky starts to their non-conference schedules this season.

Auburn is coming off a 78-72 double-overtime home loss to Rhode Island. They've also dropped games to Dayton and Murray State on a neutral court and to Boston College on the road.

One aspect where DePaul might be able to gain an advantage in this game is by forcing turnovers. Auburn coach Tony Barbee wasn't pleased with his team's ability to hold onto the ball against Rhode Island.

"We had 19 turnovers to a team that pressed us maybe once or twice--19 turnovers," Barbee said. "Those 19 turnovers turned into 30 points for them."

DePaul briefly considered hiring Barbee before bringing in Oliver Purnell to lead the Blue Demons in 2010.

One bright spot for Auburn has been freshman Jordan Price. He came off the bench to score 19 points in the Rhode Island game.

Senior guard Frankie Sullivan is leading Auburn in scoring with 18.3 points per game.

There doesn't appear to be much interest in Tiger basketball on campus. Most Auburn fans are more concerned with who will replace Gene Chizik as their football coach than their basketball team.

It's hard to believe, but this will be the first ever meeting between the two schools.

This will be the first true road game of the season for the Blue Demons who lost two games on a neutral court in Cancun. DePaul hasn't fared well away from Chicago, so this will be a test for the Blue Demons.

According to DePaul coach Oliver Purnell, sophomore Jamee Crockett will be doubtful for Friday's game. Crockett has been sitting out with a right knee sprain.

The probable starting lineup for the Blue Demons on Friday is Durrell McDonald, Brandon Young, Moses Morgan, Cleveland Melvin, and Donnavan Kirk.

Auburn guard Noel Johnson played one season for Purnell at Clemson.
