Game Preview

The Cincinnati Bearcats come into Allstate Arena on Tuesday having gone unbeaten in true road games this season. While the Bearcats dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25 this week, UC coach Mick Cronin has his team ready for the rigors of Big East basketball.

Cronin is getting it done with defense this season.

The Bearcats are 10th in the nation in field goal percent defense. Cincinnati's opponents are averaging 11.93 points below their scoring average when facing the Bearcats.

Big East teams are averaging 14.55 points below their average when matching up with Cincinnati.

"This is a difficult Cincinnati team you've got to be physically and mentally ready for," DePaul coach Oliver Purnell told WSCR radio.

It will be a contrast in styles, the Blue Demons like to put a lot of points on the board, while Cincinnati holds their opponents.

"They've got really good size and depth," Purnell said of Cincinnati.

Where the Bearcats are toughest is in the backcourt. In some ways, Cincinnati resembles the UConn team that whipped DePaul in Storrs, CT last week. Like Connecticut, they have a great guard duo in Sean Kilpatrick and Kashmere Wright.

Wright is second in the Big East in made three point shots and is averaging 14.8 points per game. Kilpatrick is leading the Bearcats with 17.2 ppg.

Keys to this game will be defending UC in the halfcourt and rebounding.

"If we're defending the ball pretty well and keeping Kashmere Wright out of the lane, and not giving Cincinnati two or three shots at the hoop, we're going to have a pretty good night," Purnell said.

The Last Time

On February 4th, 2012 at Fifth-Third Arena in Cincinnati, the Bearcats defeated the Blue Demons 74-66. Guards Dion Dixon and Sean Kilpatrick led Cincinnati with 16 points apiece. Sophomore Cleveland Melvin led the way for DePaul with a double-double of 18 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Jamee Crockett came off the bench to score 17 points in the losing effort.
