Curington is Ready to Sign

Oak Hill Academy shooting guard R.J. Curington is primed and ready to sign his national letter of intent with DePaul University on Wednesday. Hear more from the future Blue Demon in this report.

R.J. Curington verbally committed to DePaul coach Oliver Purnell back in January. On Wednesday, he'll have the opportunity to make it official as he signs with the Blue Demons.

The Dyer, Indiana native is away at Oak Hill in the mountains of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia and will sign his letter of intent there.

"I know that I will get my letter and sign it," said Curington. "I'll take pictures and celebrate with a big dinner with my teammates and friends at school. It should be a good day."

The 6-4, 170 lb. shooting guard was in Chicago a few weeks ago for his official visit at DePaul.

"It was great," R.J. said of the visit. "I learned a lot and saw what I am walking into at DePaul. I saw all of the facilities and buildings. It was great and we ate well too."

Curington spent the weekend in Chicago, along with future teammate Billy Garrett, Jr. and DePaul recruit Tommy Hamilton, Jr. who were also taking their official visits. The trio have known each other a long time. They go all the way back to when they played AAU ball together in grade school.

"I've played with them since the fifth grade," said Curington. "So it's cool to play in college and win like we did in AAU. We won a lot then."

If Hamilton, a 6-10 center at IMG Academy, decides to sign along with Garrett and Curington this spring, it would complete the trio for the Blue Demons.

"I hope he signs with DePaul," Curington said of Hamilton. "He would be a good addition to what we are trying to build up."

Curington can't wait to arrive on campus in Lincoln Park this summer and get to work.

"I'm excited and planning to do big things at DePaul," said Curington. "I'm excited about my teammates, coaches, and the training staff. I can't wait to help turn the program around."
