Tommy Hamilton committed to DePaul coach Oliver Purnell today and plans on returning to Chicago after spending one year at IMG Academy in Florida.
Hamilton hails from the Windy City and spent his first three years of high school on Chicago's near west side at Whitney Young. Tommy becomes the first player from Whitney Young to arrive at DePaul since Blue Demon great Quentin Richardson did so in the late 90's.
The 6-10, 268 lb. big man received a lot of high-major interest, but made it clear that he wanted to attend school close to home. His final two choices were Bradley and DePaul. Hamilton took official visits to both schools over the last several weeks.
According to Mac Irvin Fire AAU coach Mike Irvin, Auburn, Boston College, Miami, Oklahoma State and numerous other high major programs had all expressed interest in Hamilton.
Hamilton is ranked as the 21st best center in the nation for 2013 and a 3-star prospect by Scout.com.
Tommy's commitment gives Purnell a five man recruiting class for 2013. Hamilton joins good friend Billy Garrett, Jr., shooting guard R.J. Curington, along with juco big men Greg Sequele and Forrest Robinson.
