In the class of 2014, true post players are hard to come by in the Midwest. Benet's Sean O'Mara is one of the most skilled post players you'll find. O'Mara displayed those skills playing with the Redwings at ATTACK Athletics last week.
"It was fun," O'Mara said of the camp. "I didn't realize just how good the competition was going to be at the camp. They brought in a bunch of really good teams."
The DePaul coaching staff took notice at the camp. O'Mara already has a scholarship offer from the Blue Demons.
"DePaul is right there with the other schools that are recruiting me," said Sean who considers himself open. "I have 10 or 11 schools that are in the mix right now in my mind. DePaul has shown me some really good things with the program, the style of play, the coaching, what they've done in the past and how they are building up. The recruiting class they have coming in is monstrous. It will be interesting to watch them next year as well."
O'Mara also has scholarship offers from Boston College, Dayton, Georgia Tech, Iowa State, Seton Hall, Virginia and Xavier. He is also receiving interest from Marquette and Wake Forest.
O'Mara is looking to narrow things down and begin taking college visits once the July evaluation period is over with.
"I haven't scheduled any visits yet, but I'm starting to get some ideas where I'd like to go," said Sean.
Besides athletics, O'Mara is also looking at what he will be doing academically in college.
"I'm looking into Engineering," said O'Mara. "I know DePaul has an Engineering program and it's pretty good from what I've heard. I've also heard that it's tough for athletes, so I'm not set on that as a major yet, but it's something I'm very interested in."
The 6-9, 220 lb. big man is rated by Scout.com as a 3-star prospect and is ranked as the 21st best center in the nation.
Sean is looking forward to finishing up his last season with the IBA Select Muscle Mike AAU program during the July evaluation period.
"Our goal is to not lose in the month of July," said O'Mara. "That's always our goal and we've done pretty well in the past. We just want to get back after it for our last go-around for AAU and finish up strong. "
Sean averaged 16 points and 8 rebounds per game during his junior season at Benet Academy. The Redwings took the East Suburban Catholic Conference title by winning 27 games, thanks to O'Mara's leadership. After that, O'Mara is looking forward to following up with his senior year at Benet.
"I think we're going to surprise," Sean said of the coming season. "We lost some big pieces. We got some guys who are stepping up for us, including myself. I'm going to get more rebounds than I did last year. It's coming together right now."
