Game Preview

The Grambling State Tigers have been through some rough times. GSU is coming off a season where they finished 0-28. The team has been selected in last place among NCAA Division I Basketball teams in Ken Pomeroy's RPI. They have also been picked to finish in last place in the SWAC again this season.

The good news for second year coach Joseph Price is that only three players from that 0-28 team return for this season. Price is responsible for rebuilding and retooling the GSU program.

If you're trying to rebuild it does help to have the SWAC Freshman of the Year, guard Terry Rose, returning for this season. Rose is a pretty good marksman, who shot 41% from three point territory last year and averaged 13.7 points per game for the Tigers. Rose was selected to the second team All-SWAC pre-season team.

DePaul coach Oliver Purnell plans on putting his best defender, Charles McKinney, guarding Rose.

Another returnee for the Tigers is center Steven Danridge. Dandridge averaged 3.6 points per game and 3.1 rebounds a game as a junior. The 6-8 center is a Chicago-area product who played his high school ball at Thornridge High School.

So with 10 new players, we really don't know what to expect from this Grambling team. Given that the Tigers also did not play an exhibition game this year, there really is very little that is known about this team so far.

One thing we know is that it appears as though newcomer Chase Cormier will be GSU's starting point guard.

The Blue Demons will continue to use a variety of lineups as Purnell continues to utilize the newfound depth that he has this season.

- Junior College transfer Forrest Robinson is uncertain for Saturday's game. He suffered a high ankle sprain earlier in the week.

- Saturday's game will be the first meeting between the two schools.

- Immediately following the game, DePaul will host a Tailgate Party under the "L". Fans can celebrate the start of the college basketball season at the party located directly behind McGrath-Phillips Arena. A $10 entrance fee will provide you Home Run Inn Pizza, Buona Beef, Eisenberg Hot Dogs, Chicken Wings, Tacos, and Cake Pops along with Pepsi products for you to enjoy. Attendees will be asked to pay when they enter.

- The DePaul women's team will be playing in the Maggie Dixon Classic afterwards at 6 p.m. Central.
