Game Preview

After two losses in Kansas City before Thanksgiving, the Blue Demons look to rebound at home against Pac -12 visitor Oregon State on Sunday.

With First Brother-in-law and Oregon State coach Craig Robinson back in Chicago for this game, many are wondering if the Blue Demons will also get a visit from the President or First Lady on Sunday.

Both were in attendance a few weeks ago to see Oregon State pull off a 90-83 upset at Maryland.

Robinson probably wishes that President Obama comes to more Beaver games since OSU is 4-0 with the President in attendance.

Many are also wondering which Oregon State team will show up on Sunday, the one that lost their home opener to Coppin State? Or, the one that defeated Maryland on the road?

Oregon State returns four starters from a team that finished 14-18 (4-14 Pac-12) last season. The Beavers also get back center Angus Brandt, who hails from Lake Forest Academy, after he sat out all but four games last season with an injury. Brandt has returned to average 11.8 points per game for the Beavers.

OSU is playing without their leading rebounder Eric Moreland, who is missing non-conference games due to a suspension for a violation of team rules.

The Blue Demons will need to find a way to contain OSU guard Roberto Nelson. The senior guard leads the Beavers with 27 points and six assists per game. Senior forward Devon Collier is averaging a near double-double of 20 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.

Where Oregon State is strongest is in the frontcourt. With Brandt and Collier, they have the size to match up with DePaul's front line.

The Blue Demons meanwhile are looking to fix some of the problems that surfaced in their losses to Wichita State and Texas in the CBE Hall of Fame Tournament.

"Clearly we have to get better in the area of transition defense and rebounding," DePaul coach Oliver Purnell told WSCR Radio. "It has to be a team effort in order for us to fix it. Our bigs are going to have to clear some space and get their share of defensive rebounds."

In Ken Pomeroy's College Basketball rating this week, Oregon State checks in at number 86. The Blue Demons have slipped to 128 in the ratings.

This is Pac-12 week for the Blue Demons. After Oregon State visits on Sunday, Arizona State will come to town for a Friday night matchup at Allstate Arena.

The Last Time

This is the first time that the Blue Demons and Beavers have met since George Mikan roamed the court for legendary coach Ray Meyer. On December 21, 1945 at the Chicago Stadium, DePaul defeated Oregon State 59-40. Mikan led the way for DePaul with 22 points.

Notes

- Junior College transfer Forrest Robinson is uncertain for Sunday's game. He suffered a high ankle sprain four weeks ago.
