DePaul Rolls Past Florida Atlantic

DePaul used the inside play of Sandi Marcius and Cleveland Melvin o muscle their way past Florida Atlantic tonight in a 81-70 victory at AllState Arena.

DePaul (5-4) scored 46 of their 81 points in the paint against the 2-3 zone of Florida Atlantic (3-7) tonight.

DePaul senior center Sandi Marcius poured in a career-high 19 points and a career-high 12 rebounds for a double-double and the best night of his playing career.

"I thought he scored, and that's really good obviously, but he controlled the backboards as well," DePaul coach Oliver Purnell said of Marcius' performance. "He came up with a couple big defensive plays against their post players. I thought by far it was his best game."

Marcius didn't even realize that he had a double career-high at first.

"People were clapping when I came out and my teammate Cory (Dolins) told me that a career-high for both," said Marcius. "I'm glad we pulled that W. We have to stay consistent now and get that train rolling."

Four players finished in double-figures for the Blue Demons. Cleveland Melvin also scored 19 points, 12 of which came in the second half.

Freshman Billy Garrett, Jr. contributed with 14 points.

Senior guard Brandon Young returned from an ankle injury to score 12 points and dish out six assists for the Blue Demons.

FAU's Paulo Bertone led all scorers with 31 points in the losing effort for the Owls.

The Blue Demons will next host crosstown foe Chicago State on Sunday afternoon at Allstate Arena .
