Raymond Doby pulled the trigger while at breakfast this morning with DePaul coach Oliver Purnell during his official visit to Lincoln Park.
"I kind of had my mind already made up," said Doby. "DePaul's been on me for awhile. It's close to home, it's not too far, so that's a good thing. We were out at breakfast and he was excited when I told him."
Ray chose the Blue Demons over Georgia, Illinois State, Kansas State, St. Louis, Tennessee, and Wisconsin-Green Bay.
"I think it's a good program," Doby said of DePaul. "I've watched them play. They get up and down and I really like that. They are losing a couple seniors and they're looking for a guy who can come in with a physical presence and bring a motor to the team. I think I can be that guy."
Doby gives DePaul yet another recruit from the Mac Irvin Fire.
"They've got Billy (Garrett) and Tommy (Hamilton)," said Ray. "I'm familiar with those guys. I think that's another reason why. It's just the relationship with the players and the coaches. I felt like I was home and that's all I ask for. I really like where the school is in the city."
Doby gives the Blue Demons some more depth in the frontcourt in 2014. He's a versatile guy who can play either forward position.
"I'm a high energy guy," said Doby. "I'm really athletic. I'm versatile and can bring a lot to the game. I'm very aggressive on the boards and grab rebounds. I can shoot the midrange jumper and sometimes shoot the three. I'm more of a three (small forward). I'm physical and can jump past a lot of guys. I can also be dominant at the four too."
"He's a super athlete," said Montrose Christian coach Bryan Bartley. "He's extremely athletic and plays with a motor. One thing about him is I think his best years are ahead of him actually."
Doby knows that to play the small forward position, he needs to work on his game some more during this season at Montrose Christian.
"Right now I just need to work on mainly my ballhandling. I think that will come over time."
