"I talked to Coach Purnell and he told me about the school, the education that I'll receive, and the kind of job I'll get when I am done with school," Simpson said of the official visit.
The 6-0, 165 lb. guard played for Lincoln College in Lincoln, Illinois the last two years. He originally hails from North Chicago High School where he starred for four years.
Simpson is a local guy who is familiar with his future teammates.
"I have an opportunity to play with a great group of guys like Billy Garrett, Myke Henry, and Jamee Crockett," said Simpson. "Plus my family will be able to come and watch me play."
"I've talked with those guys for about three years now while playing on the AAU circuit and just following them in college. I've been texting with Billy for a long time now. They've talked to me about how I can fit in at DePaul and the attributes that I can bring."
Simpson was a scoring stud and leader for the Lincoln Lynx the last two years.
Simpson had reportedly given a commitment to the University of Detroit a couple of weeks ago. He also was receiving interest from Iowa, Southern Illinois, and Wichita State.
"I felt the situation of being at DePaul was better," Simpson said. "I'm thankful for all of the schools that gave me the time that recruited me, but I just felt that DePaul is where I needed to be."
Simpson fills a need in the backcourt for the Blue Demons next year. On Saturday, 2014 commit Jon Davis told Scout.com's Evan Daniels that he was going to go to prep school next year and reclassify to the class of 2015.
Simpson will now join Rashaun Stimage, Raymond Doby, and Illinois transfer Myke Henry in the class of 2014 for the Blue Demons.
