Oumar Barry verbally committed to DePaul basketball coach Oliver Purnell today. He took an official visit to the DePaul campus on the weekend of September 6th.
The 6-9 center from Bishop O’Connell High School in Arlington, Virginia has developed a reputation as a big-time shot blocker and rebounder. Barry starred for the D.C. Premier AAU program this past spring and summer. He is a teammate of 2015 forward Develle Phillips who verballed to DePaul on Sunday.
Barry had also received interest from Maryland, Towson, and Virginia Commonwealth.
DePaul has had some success with recruiting the greater D.C. area, including last year’s standouts Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin.
Barry is a native of the West African country of Guinea. He has only been in the United States for about 2 years. Barry has played organized basketball for about 4 years, and is quickly developing his game.
