Doby Back on Board with DePaul

After reclassifying to the class of 2015, St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy forward Ray Doby is back on board with the DePaul Blue Demons. Doby talks about his signing in this report.

Raymond Doby signed his second national letter of intent with DePaul today. Ray had first verbally committed to DePaul in December of 2013. He then signed with the Blue Demons for the class of 2014 back in May after finishing a year at Montrose Christian School in Maryland.

Unfortunately for Doby, things didn’t go quite as planned. Ray fell short of meeting the minimum NCAA academic requirements and in August decided to reclassify to the class of 2015. Doby enrolled at St. John’s in Delafield, Wisconsin to do a year of postgraduate work and to improve his standardized test score.

By signing today, Doby moved a step closer to his dream of playing college basketball.

“It’s a relief to get it done and not worry about anything else,” Doby said. “I’m just going to continue what I’m doing on and off the court and take it to DePaul next summer.”

After reclassifying, Doby started to get interest from other schools, but he never wavered in his commitment to DePaul.

“I had Georgia, Kansas State, Iowa, and others calling,” said the 6-7 forward. “I know I had DePaul locked in. I wasn’t really looking at any other schools. At DePaul, I felt that was home. I was most comfortable there. I liked the coaching staff. It’s a good fit for me.”

The basketball season has already gotten underway at St. John’s, where they will play other national prep schools this season.

“For me it’s going good, I’m averaging 20 (points) a game right now. I’m doing whatever it takes to win and get my teammates involved. Next week we play Brewster Academy in a showcase, that’s going to be a big game.”

Doby joins Oumar Barry and Develle Phillips to form a solid frontcourt for the Blue Demons in the 2015 recruiting class.
