On this night, there was no let up in DePaul's game. After giving up a 16 point lead to survive and win by one point against UIC in the season opener, the Blue Demons weren't about to take their foot off of the gas pedal in this game.
"We didn't want to let up like we did in the first game," said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell.
"It was 40 minutes of consistent play for the whole team," said Ilini transfer Myke Henry. "We wanted to play aggressive. I think we let up last game a little bit, but this game we didn't want to let them come back."
DePaul (2-0) had little difficulty with Drake despite leading scorer Tommy Hamilton fouling out in the second half and fellow big man Forrest Robinson in trouble with four fouls late in the contest.
DePaul had five players finish in double-figures. Sophomore guard Billy Garrett, Jr. led the way for DePaul with 15 points, 12 of which came in the second half, on four of six shooting from the field, along with three assists.
Henry scored 13 points, including some spectacular dunks, and also corralled six rebounds.
"I thought he was really good," said Purnell. "I thought he was a handful to guard. They didn't really have an answer for him. He came up with some big baskets, but also some big rebounds and big deflections. The exciting thing about Myke is he can play much better than that."
Jamee Crockett added 12 points and Robinson contributed 11 points off the bench.
Durrell McDonald turned in a performance of 10 points, seven rebounds, six assists, one block, and one steal.
The Blue Demons attacked the basket aggressively on the interior and shot 45% from beyond the arc in the winning effort.
Chris Caird led Drake with 19 points and Jordan Daniels added 17 points for Drake (0-2)
DePaul next will face Lehigh next Wednesday night at Allstate Arena after taking a break for final exams.
