Blue Demons Rout Cougars

DePaul took the Chicago State Cougars out behind the woodshed as they routed CSU 84-60 on Thursday night at the Jones Convocation Center.

DePaul (5-1) was led by the performance of sophomore Tommy Hamilton IV with a career high of 25 points on a perfect seven for seven shooting, eight rebounds, two steals, and one block.

“I just let my game come to me,” said Hamilton. “I tried to get started on the inside first and luckily my three was going tonight and that was good. My teammates kept feeding me and I just kept producing.”

“I thought Tommy was really active early on,” said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell. “I think that helped us. Obviously he was a big difference maker. They really didn’t have an answer for him and we kept feeding him.”

The Blue Demons had four players finish in double-figures. Myke Henry scored 12 points and grabbed six rebounds. Billy Garrett, Jr. and Aaron Simpson scored 11 points apiece. Darrick Wood came in off the bench to contribute eight points and six rebounds.

The Blue Demons outrebounded CSU by a 36-28 margin in the win and shot 52.4 percent from the field while holding the Cougars to 36.8 percent shooting.

Clarke Rosenberg led the way for Chicago State (2-7) with 20 points.

With the 5-1 record, the Blue Demons are now off to their best start under Purnell.

“We’re getting better,” Purnell said. “I thought we played really, really well against Stanford. I thought we played well versus Northern Illinois and I thought we played well in stretches tonight.”

DePaul next returns home to face Milwaukee at Allstate Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Notes:

- Even though this was a road game, DePaul wore their home white uniforms as Chicago State wore solid dark green uniforms.

- Every available member of the Blue Demons saw actions in tonight's game except for Greg Sequele, who was out with a sprained ankle.
