Oregon State Drops Hammer on DePaul

CORVALLIS, Ore. — Victor Robbins scored a career-high 27 points as Oregon State dominated DePaul 90-59 on Thursday night.

Olaf Schaftenaar added a career-high 21 points, and Gary Payton II had 15 points and five steals for the Beavers (8-2).

Jamee Crockett had 14 points for the Blue Demons (6-4).

Schaftenaar scored 11 of the Beavers’ first 13 points to give Oregon State a 13-6 lead at the 15:47 mark.

A Robbins 3-pointer stretched the margin to 42-21 with 3:23 remaining in the half.

The Beavers led 48-28 at the break, and had outrebounded the Blue Demons 22-11 at that point, scoring 11 second-chance points.

Oregon State led by as many as 34 in the second half.

Robbins reached a career high in points for the second time in as many games. He had 22 points in a win versus Grambling State on Monday.

Myke Henry, who came in leading the Blue Demons in scoring at 17 points per game, was held to nine.

DePaul had been averaging 49.2 percent shooting, but Oregon State’s defense harassed the Blue Demons into a 34 percent night, the Blue Demons’ worst shooting performance this season.


DePaul: The Blue Demons had won the two previous meetings between the schools, including a 93-81 victory last December in Chicago. . The Blue Demons, from the Big East, are now 1-1 against the Pac-12 this season, having defeated Stanford.

Oregon State: The Beavers now have a five-game winning streak, their longest in two years. . The Beavers have won all seven of their home games this season at Gill Coliseum. … Gary Payton II is the son of Gary Payton, a former All-American for the Beavers who was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013. He entered Thursday’s game leading Oregon State at 13.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game.


DePaul plays Colorado on Monday at the Diamond Head Classic in Honolulu.

Oregon State plays at Quinnipiac on Sunday.
