Hrynko Named Big East Player of the Week

CHICAGO – Brittany Hrynko averaged 23.0 points in a 2-0 week for the DePaul women’s basketball team en route to being named the Big East Conference Player of the Week.

The senior guard capped off her week against Xavier by tying a school record with eight 3-pointers on Sunday. Hrynko scored 32 points versus the Musketeers with 27 coming in the first half. The Philadelphia native finished 12-of-20 from the field against Xavier while Hrynko added five rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 27 minutes of action.

In DePaul’s 83-65 win at Butler, Hrynko scored 14 points, grabbed three rebounds and dished out five assists.

For the week, Hrynko shot 64.7 percent from behind the arc with 5.5 triples per game. She also added 4.5 assists and boasted a 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio.

With 11 3-pointers last week, Hrynko now has 147 career triples during the BIG EAST regular season which ranks sixth all-time in the league’s history.

In her two games last week, Hrynko tallied 46 points and now has 1,794 career points which ties for fifth most by a DePaul player. She is tied for fifth with Barb Atsaves (1980-84).

This is Hrynko’s fifth career BIG EAST Player of the Week honor and her fourth of the season. She was also named the conference’s Player of the Week on Dec. 8, Jan. 5 and Jan. 26.

Creighton’s Sydney Lamberty was named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week.

Alexis Akin-Otiko from Creighton, Caroline Coyer from Villanova, Briana Glover from Xavier, Ka-Deidre Simmons from Seton Hall and Ijeoma Uchendu from Butler were all named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.

The Blue Demons, who are in first place in the BIG EAST standings, put their six-game winning streak on the line when they host BIG EAST games against Seton Hall and St. John’s this weekend at McGrath-Phillips Arena.

Friday’s game (Feb. 13) with the Pirates is set to tip at 7 p.m. on the BIG EAST Digital Network. Sunday’s game with the Red Storm is slated to be DePaul’s Play4Kay game and all in attendance are encouraged to wear pink. DePaul’s contest against St. John’s will be carried on Fox Sports 1.
