DePaul Falls at Marquette, 58-48

MILWAUKEE - The Blue Demons offense sputtered and the shots didn’t fall as DePaul struggled in a 58-48 loss at Marquette on Saturday afternoon.

DePaul (12-19, 6-12) couldn’t seem to get much going against Marquette’s (12-18, 4-14)defense throughout the game. The Blue Demons were held to 19 points in the first half and went scoreless for a six minute stretch in the first stanza. Overall, DePaul shot 32.8 percent from the field.

Billy Garrett, Jr. was held to an uncharacteristic two points on one of nine shooting.

“It was just one of those situations where we just couldn’t make shots and get over the hump,” said DePaul coach Oliver Purnell.

With just nine fouls called on Marquette to 20 called on the Blue Demons, DePaul made just six trips to the free throw line all day.

The Blue Demons were without center Tommy Hamilton who wasn’t feeling well.

“Tommy didn’t practice for the last two days,” said Purnell. “He said he didn’t feel well and he didn’t warm up well.”

Today was Marquette’s Senior Day where Juan Anderson, Matt Carlino, and Derrick Wilson were honored before the game.

Carlino led the way for the Golden Eagles with 20 points. Big man Luke Fischer contributed 17 points and nine rebounds in the winning effort.

DePaul was led by 14 points on six of 16 shooting from senior Jamee Crockett. Myke Henry added 12 points.

The Blue Demons now travel to New York where they will play in the first round of the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. DePaul will face Creighton at 8:30 p.m. Central. The winner of that game will face the two seed Georgetown on Thursday night.
