Marfo is a Fast Rising Prospect for 2016

HOUSTON -- One of the fastest-rising prospects in the eyes of high-major programs this spring has been BABC forward Kevin Marfo. The Class of 2016 power forward is one of the stronger forwards in the class. At 6-foot-8, 235 pounds, he's also very skilled for a player his size.

"I'm like a David West, Zach Randolph type of player. I'm physical. I like to use my body real well and I'm stronger than most guys," Marfo told WeAreDePaul.com.

"The four; power forward. Those guys, especially, are people I look up to. They're guys who use their skill more than their athleticism. I'm a firm believer that skill takes you farther than athleticism."

This spring has been huge for Marfo, as he's returning from injury and he's happy with his play so far. In EYBL play, Marfo is averaging 11.2 points, 7.7 rebounds per game and shooting 45 percent from the field.

"I think I've been playing well. I'm scoring the ball in the paint well," Marfo said. "Rebounding well; assisting well. But I have a lot of good teammates around me that are complimenting me well."

Playing with BABC has been important for Marfo because he missed half of his high school season with Worcester Academy with a torn meniscus. Only 11 weeks removed from surgery, Marfo is getting minutes on a talented team in the toughest grassroots league in the country.

"It's been amazing. It's a great experience just coming off of injury. I didn't expect to play this well but I'm happy I'm here," Marfo said. "I've been working real hard to get back. I feel better than ever. My legs still need to get a little stronger but I feel close to 100 percent."

Marfo told WeAreDePaul.com that he has scholarship offers from DePaul, Brown, George Washington, La Salle, Lehigh, Quinnipiac, Rider, St. Joseph's, Towson, Wofford and Xavier. A few of those schools seem to be recruiting Marfo the hardest.

"Brown, St. Joe's, George Washington, DePaul and Xavier [are on me the hardest]," Marfo said.

"I know [DePaul] just got a new coach, so they're still in the rebuilding process."

After the spring EYBL season finishes up, Marfo has plans to take a few unofficial visits to some east coast schools. He'll likely cut a list after AAU season ends after July.

"I'm probably going to visit St. Joseph's, George Washington and La Salle after the last EYBL session," Marfo said.

When he's looking at colleges, Marfo is keeping a few factors in mind as he starts to see schools and get more familiar with the recruiting process.

"A family atmosphere. Guys who will always have their back and be there for you," Marfo said. "They want to see me succeed. They're going to push me."

BABC currently sits in a three-way tie for second place in Division A of the EYBL as they battle for a spot in Peach Jam. Keep it to WeAreDePaul.com for the latest on Kevin Marfo and his recruitment.
