2016 Guard Brandon Cyrus Picks DePaul

Brandon Cyrus, a 6-4, 180 lb. shooting guard from La Lumiere School, has verbally committed to DePaul coach Dave Leitao.

The timing couldn’t have been better.  This means that DePaul coach Dave Leitao now has three commitments for 2016 going into the National Signing Period which starts on Wednesday.

Cyrus joins his prep school teammate Al Eichelberger and Curie guard Devin Gage in the 2016 recruiting class for the Blue Demons.

Cyrus and Eichelberger took their official visits to DePaul on the same weekend in October.  Then they committed on the same day.  However, that doesn’t mean that the two planned things to work out that way.

“It just so happened that we both love the same school,” said Brandon.  “We’re both similar people.  We love to win.”

Cyrus and Eichelberger have already started to develop some chemistry between each other on the court at La Lumiere.

Brandon says that the number one reason he picked DePaul was because of the relationship that he had with Leitao and his coaching staff.

“Overall it was the coaching staff,” said Cyrus.  “They genuinely cared for me as a person, not just as a player.  Every single coach in the locker room cared about me and cared about my future. I loved the campus.  I liked the facilities, and especially the people on campus.  I went to the Athletic Director’s house and she was very hospitable.  She was very genuine when she told me about the school.”

Cyrus originally hails from Toronto, Canada.  He spent his first two years of high school in San Diego and then moved to La Lumiere in La Porte, Indiana.

Brandon first picked up a scholarship offer from DePaul in September.

“It means a lot that a coach can just walk in a gym and not even come here originally for me, and see how hard I play and my leadership and offer me on the spot," said Cyrus of the DePaul offer.

Cyrus chose DePaul over interest from Nevada, St. Bonaventure, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UNLV, and Wake Forest.

Brandon is ranked as the 24th best shooting guard in the nation by Scout.com and the fourth best shooting guard in the Midwest.

“I’m very fast,” Cyrus said of his game.  “I like a very, very fast pace.  I’m high energy and bring that energy to the court.”
