Pirates Sink Blue Demons on Senior Day

Seton Hall point guard Isaiah Whitehead came ready to play with a career high performance of 33 points that gave the Pirates a 80-66 win and sunk DePaul’s chances of a victory on Senior Day at Allstate Arena on Saturday afternoon.

It was all about Whitehead for Seton Hall (22-8, 12-6), who led the late charge for the Pirates with 25 of his 33 points coming in the second half.

“Whitehead had a phenomenal performance to push the lead up for them,” said DePaul coach Dave Leitao.

The turning point in the game came when Whitehead saved the ball from going out of bounds and setup a breakaway for Khadeen Carrington with 9:28 to go in the game.  Carrington was then pushed from behind as he was going up for a dunk by DePaul senior guard Aaron Simpson.

Simpson was ejected after a flagrant two foul was called for his push.

“I thought up until that point, both teams were still kind of figuring each other out and not forging ahead,” said Leitao.  “Then that happened and they became the team that did.”

Khadeen Carrington contributed 17 points, while Desi Rodriguez added 11 points, and Angel Delgado grabbed 10 rebounds.

DePaul (9-21, 3-15) was led by the play of junior guard Billy Garrett with 18 points and Myke Henry’s 15 points in his final game at Allstate Arena.

Rashaun Stimage started for the Blue Demons and racked up seven points and seven rebounds.

Before the game the Blue Demons honored their senior class of Henry, Simpson, Stimage, Cory Dolins, and David Molinari.

DePaul now heads to New York where they will face either Georgetown or Marquette in the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night.
