DePaul Recruiting Roundup

Last month we told you that DePaul coach Dave Leitao would be actively working the 2016 transfer wire.  That certainly has been the case.  We update you on a few transfers along with more recruiting notes in this report.

Hot Transfer

Leitao and his DePaul coaching staff will host Lewis transfer Max Strus for an official visit beginning on Sunday night.

Strus, a 6-6 215 lb. guard from Hickory Hills, has already made official visits to Butler and Xavier.

Max was named a Division II All-American by the National Association of Basketball Coaches following this season where he averaged 20.2 points, 8.4 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.  He led the Flyers in all three categories.

As a transfer, Strus will have to sit out one season and has two years of eligibility remaining.

Max’s mother, Debbie Brinkman Strus, is a member of the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame.  She played both basketball and volleyball for the Blue Demons from 1977 to 1981.

Package Deal

Strus isn’t the only transfer that DePaul is looking at.  The Blue Demons are also recruiting a pair of twins who played two years at North Carolina State.  Caleb Martin and Cody Martin are leaving Raleigh, North Carolina and are considering California, DePaul, East Carolina, North Carolina-Wilmington, Old Dominion, Providence, and Rutgers.

Caleb Martin, a 6-7 215 lb. small forward, averaged 11.5 points this season.  He started 19 games for the Wolfpack.

Cody Martin, a 6-7 210-pound small forward, averaged six points and 4.4 rebounds per game.  He is known for his defensive prowess and started the final 16 games of the season.

Both twins were rated as 4-star prospects by coming out of high school.

As of this writing, the Martin twins have not scheduled any official visits, but are expected to visit schools once their school year ends at NC State.

The Martins will have to sit out one year and have two years of eligibility left.

Mr. Basketball

2016 Illinois Mr. Basketball Charlie Moore, a 5-10 point guard from Morgan Park, has reopened his recruitment after signing with Memphis in the fall.  Memphis head coach Josh Pastner recently left the school for Georgia Tech which paved the way for Moore to reopen his recruitment.

Among the schools vying for Moore’s services now are Alabama, Arkansas, California, DePaul, Georgia Tech, Iowa, Miami, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Saint Louis, SMU, VCU, and Wisconsin.

Also don’t be surprised if newly hired Memphis coach Tubby Smith doesn’t try to retain Moore.  Smith has reached out to Moore and talked with him this week.

Moore averaged 28 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and five steals per game for the Mustangs this season.

Charlie is rated as a 4-star prospect and is ranked 65th in the nation overall and as the 16th best point guard by
