Strus, a 6-6 215 lb. guard who originally hails from Hickory Hills, chose the Blue Demons after taking official visits to DePaul, Butler, and Xavier.
He was also receiving interest from Louisville, Michigan, and Wisconsin.
Max led the Lewis Flyers in scoring (20.2 points), rebounding (8.4) and assists (3.5) last season. That performance earned him a spot on the Division II All-American team by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
Strus will sit out the 2016-17 season at DePaul and will have two years of eligibility beginning in 2017 when DePaul’s new arena opens.
Max now becomes a second generation Blue Demon. His mother, Debbie Brinkman Strus, is a member of the DePaul Athletics Hall of Fame. She played both basketball and volleyball for the Blue Demons from 1977 to 1981.
