DePaul Recruiting Roundup – July 10th

From Pennsylvania to Georgia to many other destinations, the DePaul coaching staff scouted prospective recruits during the first week of the July live evaluation period. We take a look at some of the prospects in this report.

2017

DePaul started off recruiting for the class of 2017 with the verbal commitment of 4-star point guard Justin Roberts last month.

With Roberts on board, the focus for the Blue Demon coaching staff has now shifted to frontcourt players in the 2017 class.

That was most evident when looking at the scholarship offers that the staff extended in the first week of July to 2017 prospects.  That included the following players:

Raiquan Gray – a 6-8 235 lbs. forward from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.  Gray was named to the Under Armour All-American camp last week.

Victor Uyaelunmo –  a 6-11, 210 lbs. big man from Miami, Florida. Uyaelunmo is an AAU teammate of Raiquan Gray and was also at the Under Armour All-American camp.

Josip Vrankic – a 6-8, 205 lbs. face up forward who is originally from Canada. Vrankic impressed many at the Hoop Group Elite camp this week.

Evan Battey – at 6-7,280 lbs. Battey is a force on the interior.  Battey, who is from Villa Park, California, was listed by Scout.com as one of the best potential sleepers for the July eval. period.

Mr. Roberts

DePaul head coach Dave Leitao of course followed Justin Roberts while he played at Nike Peach Jam with his Spiece Indy Heat team.

In his five games at Nike Peach Jam, Roberts led Spiece Indy Heat in scoring with 11.8 points per game and dished out 2.2 assists per game.

Local Scene for 2019

Marquise Walker, a class of 2019 point guard from St. Joseph’s High School in Westchester picked up a scholarship offer from the Blue Demons today.  Walker was one of the best freshmen in the state of Illinois to debut this past high school season.

The DePaul coaching staff also offered a scholarship to Markese Jacobs, a rising sophomore point guard from Uplift High School in Chicago.  Jacobs, who plays on the AAU circuit with the 15-U Mac Irvin Fire team, was also at DePaul’s Team Camp last month.

Next, there is a short break in the action before the second evaluation period for July starts up again on Wednesday night.
