Game Preview

The Blue Demons look to get rid of the bitter taste from Saturday’s loss on the road at Northwestern and get back on track with a game against Lamar on Tuesday night.

Looking at Lamar’s performance this season is a bit of a mixed bag.

Their best win was a 63-60 victory on the road at Oregon State. In that game the Cardinals displayed a solid defense and forced 27 turnovers.

All three of the Cardinals’ defeats have come on the road, losing at Fresno State, Idaho State, and San Francisco.

Lamar is led by former Memphis coach Tic Price.  They Cardinals are coming off a season where they finished 11-19.

Lamar is currently ranked 301st in Ken Pomeroy’s College Basketball Ratings.

The Cardinals are led by 6-5 forward Colton Weisbrod who leads the team in both scoring (16.7 ppg) and rebounding (10.3 rpg).   6-0 guard Nick Garth is coming off the bench as a sparkplug and is contributing 11.4 ppg.

DePaul has not been outscored in the second half of a game this season.  The Blue Demons’ weakness has been the first half.  DePaul coach Dave Leitao keeps promising to shake up his lineup in order to get a better first half start out of his team.  Will this be the game where that finally happens?

The Last Time

In the only meeting between the two schools on January 15, 1980 at Alumni Hall in Lincoln Park, the number one ranked Blue Demons prevailed when guard Skip Dillard hit a 16 footer with three seconds remaining to defeat Lamar 61-59.
