Temple Trips DePaul

Despite a hard fought late second half comeback by the Blue Demons, the Temple Owls walked out of American Airlines Arena in Miami victorious with a 74-65 win on Saturday afternoon.

DePaul (5-3) trailed by as many as 25 points with 9:09 to play, but went on a 18-2 run that started with six minutes left.

The Blue Demons came to within five points of Temple with 32 seconds left, but could get no closer.

DePaul’s Eli Cain led all scorers with 17 points. Cain was recovering from a stomach virus and shot five of 16 from the field.

Billy Garrett, Jr. scored 15 points before fouling out with 10 seconds to go, but shot two of 10 overall.

Tre’Darius McCallum contributed eight points and eight rebounds, but was also two of 10 from the field.

DePaul could not overcome their paltry shooting. The Demons shot 34 percent overall and just one for 13 from beyond the arc.

Temple (7-3) was led by Obi Enechionyia and Shizz Alston, Jr., who contributed 15 points apiece.

The Blue Demons will return to campus on Wednesday night for a tussle with the UIC Flames at McGrath-Phillips Arena.
