Wyoming Downs DePaul in Vegas

With a poor shooting performance in the second half and very little help from their leading scorer, the Blue Demons succumbed to Wyoming in a 72-58 loss in the semifinals of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic on Thursday night.

DePaul (7-5) was outshot by Wyoming (10-2) 55.2 percent to 27.8 percent in the second half.

Unfortunately for the Blue Demons, leading scorer Eli Cain had a sub-par performance of five points on two for 18 shooting.

“I thought more than anything, we missed a lot of layups,” DePaul coach Dave Leitao told WSCR radio.  “I don’t think we had rhythm on offense.”

Leitao was also disappointed with the lack of sharing of the ball as the Demons finished with just five assists after averaging over 20 assists in the last two games.

Junior college transfer Tre’Darius McCallum led the way for the Demons with 18 and six rebounds.

Billy Garrett, Jr. contributed with 17 points in the losing effort.

Four players finished in double-figures for the victorious Cowboys, who have now won seven straight games.  Hayden Dalton led the way with a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds.  Justin James scored 13 points.  Alexander Aka Gorski chipped in with 12 points and Alan Herndon added 10 points.

The Blue Demons will face the loser of the USC vs. Missouri State game on Friday night at 7:30 p.m. Central.
