DePaul Drops 2nd Straight in Las Vegas

The Blue Demons struggled from the field in the third place game of the Continental Tire Las Vegas Classic to lose 69-58 to Missouri State on Friday night.

For the second straight game, DePaul’s leading scorer Eli Cain was in a shooting slump.  After scoring just five points the night before, Cain scored six points on one of 10 from the field tonight.

Overall, DePaul (7-6) shot 32 percent from the floor, but gave up 47 percent to Missouri State (9-4).

DePaul was outscored in the paint 46 to 28.  Added to that, the Blue Demons were outworked on the glass by a 44 to 29 margin.

Senior guard Billy Garrett, Jr. led the way for DePaul with 16 points.  Tre McCallum added 11 points and seven rebounds.  DePaul freshman Brandon Cyrus finished with 10 points.   R.J. Curington  came in off the bench to score eight points.

MSU’s Alize Johnson led all scorers with a double-double performance of 17 points and 12 rebounds.   Obediah Church contributed with 16 points while Ryan Kreklow added 13 points off the bench.

It was the second game the two teams played this season.  In November, DePaul defeated MSU at Allstate Arena by a score of 68 to 66.

The Blue Demons have now wrapped up non-conference play.  After a short break for the Christmas Holiday, DePaul will open the Big East schedule at Villanova on Wednesday night.
