Rowsey Leads Marquette Past DePaul

While the Blue Demons competed for most of the afternoon at Allstate Arena on Saturday, they had no answer for Marquette’s firepower from beyond the arc.

The Golden Eagles shot 66 percent on trifectas in the 92-79 win over the Blue Demons.

Marquette (15-8, 6-5) was led by five 3-pointers from Andrew Rowsey, who led all scorers with 22 points while coming off the bench.  Rowsey knocked down six shots from beyond the arc in the first meeting with the Blue Demons this season.

“Including Villanova, they are close to lethal offensively,” DePaul coach Dave Leitao said.  “For a number of reasons.  One of which is that they share the basketball and find open people, and two and most importantly, they have a multitude of people that knock down shots.”

Marquette also got help on the defensive end with seven blocks from center Luke Fischer.

Tre’Darius McCallum led DePaul (8-15, 1-9) with 21 points and seven rebounds.  Tre knocked down four 3-pointers in the loss.

“Tre has done as good a job as anyone can possibly do coming from junior college and meshing with a team and finding his place,” Leitao said,

DePaul had all five starters finish in double-figures. Billy Garrett, Jr. scored 17 points while Brandon Cyrus and Joe Hanel contributed 12 points each.  Eli Cain added 10 points and dished out seven assists.

The Blue Demons will now travel to Cincinnati where they will face the Xavier Musketeers on Wednesday night.
