It was a big weekend for future DePaul Blue Demons competing in state tournaments in Wisconsin and Indiana.
2018 commit John Diener, the cousin of DePaul legend Drake Diener, led his Cedarburg Bulldogs team to the Wisconsin state championship game in Division 2.
Diener came up huge on Friday afternoon in Madison with DePaul coach Dave Leitao looking on. John broke the all-time state playoff scoring record with 46 points on Saturday. The record of 45 was previously held by former Wisconsin big man Brian Butch. Diener led the Bulldogs to a 73-70 double-overtime win over Milwaukee Washington.
Diener also set the records for most field goals made and most field goals attempted in a single game.
Then on Saturday night, Diener scored 25 points in a close 55-53 loss to LaCrosse Central in the state championship game.
For the weekend, John shot 25 of 45 from the field and 10 of 17 from beyond the arc and totaled 71 points.
