Since leaving Temple, Keith Butler has visited DePaul University in Chicago and Stony Brook University. Butler is familiar with the head coaches at both schools from his playing days in the Atlantic 10. Keith knows DePaul coach Jerry Wainwright from his time as head coach of the Richmond Spiders. While new Stony Brook head coach Steve Pikiell knew Butler from when he was the associate head coach at George Washington.
Butler is the brother of former DePaul center Lamar Butler. Keith started for three seasons at Temple and will have one year of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2005-06 basketball season. As a junior for the Temple Owls, Keith averaged 4.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, and just under two blocks per game while averaging 20 minutes per game.
