Thomas Looking at Big East Schools

There was a time when DePaul, led by head coach Dave Leitao, made a priority of recruiting East Coast players. Leitao successfully recruited guys like Sammy Mejia, Cliff Clinkscales, and Karron Clarke from the east coast to come to DePaul. One of those interested recruits that Leitao had his radar on and one who current coach Jerry Wainwright will give thought to is 6-6 220 forward Rob Thomas from Brooklyn, NY.

Thomas now preps at Sount Kent Prep School in Connecticut. That's the same prep school heralded Dorell Wright (DePaul Signee) attended before making the jump from preps to the NBA. Thomas is not of that caliber yet but he will make one solid college basketball player for one lucky school. Will it be DePaul? Hard to say. South Kent Prep head coach Raphael Chillious cites the academic programs at DePaul and Rob's relationship with DePaul recruiter Gary DeCesare as advantages for the Blue Demons.

Thomas has a list of schools that includes Connecticut, Syracuse, Pittsburgh, DePaul, Florida, and South Florida. "Mostly all Big East schools," Rob explained. As for visits, expect them soon. "I will be taking them while I am staying at South Kent."

There is no doubt that Thomas is of Big East caliber. He can score from mostly anywhere on the court, especially in the paint. When I saw him at the ABCD camp in July, he played well enough to be rewarded a spot on the camp All-star game. He has a well-rounded game.

Although, according to Thomas, not a well rounded body. "Last year I was in shape, but this year I probably put on like 10 pounds," Thomas stated. "I used to be skinny and used to run around, and people would say 'who's this skinny kid running around'. But now I'm getting fat so that's my weakness right now." Pay no mind to that. Thomas just needs to shed about 5-10 pounds and he will be at a good playing weight. He has plenty of upside. He wants to work on his left-hand moves and improve his shooting accuracy.

Any Big East School would be lucky to have him.
