DePaul Announces 2005-06 Men's Basketball Schedule

CHICAGO – DePaul will open BIG EAST Conference play in a familiar setting and will host long-time rival in its first league home game according to the schedule that was released by the league office today.

The Blue Demons will play 15 games against teams that went to postseason last season, including 10 against NCAA Tournament teams. DePaul will also play four games that will be televised nationally by ESPN in 2005-06.

"It is an exciting schedule with marquee games and I know our players are very excited about the challenges that lie ahead. From top to bottom, the BIG EAST Conference is going to be the best basketball league in the nation and must be ready to play each and every night since there are no ‘nights off' in this conference," DePaul head coach Jerry Wainwright said. "The non-conference schedule is extremely challenging but we feel it's the best way to prepare our young team for the rigors of the conference schedule."

The season kicks-off on November 19 with the home opener, and the debut of Wainwright on the Blue Demon bench, as Bradley comes to the Allstate Arena. Northwestern visits Rosemont a week later on November 26 and, after a trip to Northern Illinois on November 28, Creighton will be in town to close out the November portion of the schedule on the 30th.

December opens with Bucknell visiting the Allstate Arena on the 3rd and former Conference USA rival UAB coming to town on the 6th. The Blue Demons will then embark on a four-game road swing that will take them from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast in 11 days.

The trip begins on December 10 with a visit to Dayton followed by an ESPN game at Wake Forest on the 13th and a contest at Old Dominion on the 17th. DePaul will then venture across the country to participate in the Pete Newell Classic in Oakland where they will face California on December 21. The match-up with the Golden Bears will be broadcast by College Sports Television.

The non-conference portion of the schedule will conclude on New Year's Eve as Florida International visits the Allstate Arena.

For the fourth consecutive year DePaul's first conference road game will be at Cincinnati (January 4) and it marks the third time in the past four years that the Blue Demons have opened league play at Fifth Third Arena. DePaul's BIG EAST home debut will take place three days later when long-time rival Notre Dame comes to the Allstate Arena (January 7). The month of January also has DePaul entertaining Rutgers (January 15), Marquette (January 17) and Georgetown (January 31) while the Blue Demon visit Pittsburgh (January 12) on ESPN, Providence (January 21) and Marquette (January 25).

The month of February opens with DePaul at USF on the 4th. The other road games during the month are at St. John's (February 18) and Louisville (February 22). The home contests will feature Providence (February 7), Villanova (February 11) on ESPN and Seton Hall (February 25).

March boasts two regular season contests, both on ESPN, as Syracuse comes to the Allstate Arena (March 2) for Senior Night and the regular season finale on March 4 at Notre Dame.

The annual BIG EAST Conference Tournament will take place on March 8-11 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

Local television outlets and further game time information will be released as it becomes available.
