Big East Coaches Pick DePaul to Finish 11th

The DePaul men's basketball team was picked to finish eleventh in the 2005-06 Big East Conference title chase, in pre-season balloting as determined by the 16 conference coaches.

The men's basketball coaches poll and the All-Big East pre-season team were released at the conference's media day at Madison Square Garden in New York City this morning.

Villanova was chosen to win the regular season title. UConn trailed by two points and two first place votes. However, the votes were taken before the recent injury to Wildcat Curtis Sumpter. Sumpter will undergo knee surgery next week.

Sumpter was also named to the Big East all-preseason team along with Connecticut's Josh Boone, Louisville's Taquan Dean, Villanova's Randy Foye, UConn's Rudy Gay, St. John's Daryll Hill, Pittsburgh's Carl Krauser, Syracuse's Gerry McNamara, West Virginia's Kevin Pittsnogle and Allan Ray of Villanova.

Gay and McNamara were voted pre-season co-players of the year.

Syracuse freshman guard Eric Devendorf was chosen as the Big East Pre-season Rookie of the Year.

Louisville was chosen to finish third followed by Syracuse, West Virginia, Georgetown, Pitt, Notre Dame, Cincinnati, St. John's, DePaul, Marquette, Providence, Rutgers, Seton Hall and South Florida.
