DePaul Softball Inks Four for 2006-07

CHICAGO- DePaul Head Softball Coach Eugene Lenti announced today the signing of four players to a National Letter-of-Intent. The Blue Demons signed two Illinois natives, Annie Demas from Oak Park and Sheana Warren from Schaumburg. The out-of state signees include Marie Thompson from Gilbert, Arizona and Rebecca Heteniak is from Simi Valley, California.

"This is an exceptional class with a tremendous amount of versatility, speed and power," Lenti said. "This is a class that will keep DePaul in the national spotlight and lead us back to Women's College World Series."

As a junior, Demas helped lead her Oak Park River Forest High School team to the Illinois State High School Championship. "Annie is the first left handed first baseman we have had in more than 20 years" Lenti said. "She will add an extra dimension to the infield."

Warren is a middle infielder and all-conference athlete for Schaumburg High School. "Sheana is a solid middle infielder and can also play anywhere in the outfield," Lenti said. "She has solid power and above average speed."

Thompson currently plays center field for Gilbert High School and was named an Arizona All-Region player as junior. "Marie is one of the most versatile players we have ever had, "Lenti said. "She possess great speed, power and an unbelievable work ethic."

Heteniak, a pitcher, rounds out the 2006-07 class and was named the MVP of her Royal High School softball team as a junior. "Rebecca will have make an immediate impact in the circle," Lenti said. "She will help us compete for a national championship."

DePaul is coming off a 45-21 season that saw the Blue Demons reach the Women's College World Series for the third time in school history. DePaul will open the 2006 season at the Stetson Tournament, February 10-12.
