No. 14 DePaul Routs UW-Milwaukee 91-79

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – Khara Smith and Allie Quigley scored 23 points apiece while three other players finished with 11 points each in a 91-79 win for No. 14 DePaul on Wednesday night at UW-Milwaukee. Smith also pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds for her fifth straight double-double.

The Panthers hit the first two shots of the game before Quigley knocked down DePaul's first bucket on an eight-footer in the lane. Erin Carney followed a Quigley miss with a putback to give the Blue Demons their first lead of the game at 10-9 with 15:34 left in the first half.

UW-Milwaukee (2-3) reeled off the next seven points forcing DePaul to call a time out with 14:34 on the clock. Aubrey Hampton hit a three-pointer from the left wing to cap the flurry for the Panthers and give DePaul their largest deficit of the season at six points.

Molly O'Brien hit another three-pointer for UW-Milwaukee before Khara Smith ended the run with a turnaround jumper off the glass to close the deficit to seven points at 19-12. It was DePaul's first basket in nearly four minutes.

Following a lay-up by Meredith Onson, Erin Cattell hit two jumpers and Suzanne Morrison scored a bucket to bring the Blue Demons to within three points at 26-23 with just under eight minutes left before halftime.

DePaul (6-0) regained the lead on their final possession when Smith followed a missed free throw by Quigley to give the Blue Demons a 37-36 halftime lead. DePaul shot a combined .354 (17-48) in the first half, including a team mark of just .143 (2-14) from three-point range. DePaul was busy on the offensive glass as they grabbed 17 rebounds off their own missed shots. Overall, the outrebounded UW-Milwaukee, 25-17, while the Panthers hit 13-of-23 (.565) attempts.

Quigley hit the first three baskets of the second half for the Blue Demons, but the Panthers answered each time. DePaul built a six-point lead on three occasions and took an eight-point advantage at 62-54 on a lay-up by Caprice Smith with just under 12 minutes left in the game.

The lead grew to as high as 15 on three occasions over the final five minutes and a lay-up by Cattell put DePaul ahead 91-74 with 55 seconds on the clock for their largest lead of the evening.

Smith and Quigley led the way with 23 points each while Carney, Cattell and Jenna Rubino added 11 points each. Carney and Rubino also grabbed eight boards apiece as DePaul outrebounded the Panthers, 45-32, in the game. The Blue Demons shook off the cold shooting in the first half by knocking down 20-of-35 (.571) attempts in the second period.

The Blue Demons return to the DePaul Athletic Center on Saturday for a game against Purdue. Tipoff between the two top 25 programs is set for 7 p.m.
