Blue Demons Enter Top 10 for First Time

CHICAGO – On the heels of a 15-1 record over the first 16 games of the season, the DePaul women's basketball team entered the nation's top 10 in the ESPN/USA Today/WBCA Coaches' poll for the first time in school history. DePaul jumped up a spot from No. 11 in the coaches' poll after a pair of BIG EAST victories over Pittsburgh and Marquette.

The Blue Demons were slotted at No. 10 with 505 points, just a point behind No. 9 Rutgers with 506 points. A panel of 31 head coaches at NCAA Division I institutions votes on the weekly top 25.

DePaul started the season at No. 18 in the preseason poll and advanced up to a tie for 11th on Dec. 5. In last week's poll, DePaul moved up to No. 11 to match the previous best for the program in the coaches' poll.

The BIG EAST sports three teams in the nation's top 10 with the 10th-ranked Blue Demons joining No. 7 Connecticut and No. 9 Rutgers. The ACC also features three top 10 clubs while the SEC is represented by two teams and the Big Ten and Big 12 each have one team.

Up next for the Blue Demons is a Saturday afternoon game against Villanova at the DePaul Athletic Center. The BIG EAST matchup tips off at 1 p.m. with the game televised on the BIG EAST TV Network. Locally, the game can be seen on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
