No. 10 DePaul Tops Seton Hall

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The No. 10 DePaul women's basketball team bounced back from a midweek loss at Notre Dame with a 69-56 win at Seton Hall on Saturday. The Blue Demons led by as many as 18 points in the second half before settling with the 13-point win.

Trailing 12-9 with 13:25 on the clock, the Blue Demons went on an 18-2 run to take a 27-14 advantage with just under six minutes left in the first half. Allie Quigley and Jenna Rubino led the charge by combining for nine of the 18 points.

Seton Hall (6-11, 3-3 BIG EAST) answered with two straight baskets before Rubino drilled her second three-pointer of the first half with 4:03 left in the first period.

Over the final four minutes, the Pirates scored nine of the period's last 14 points with DePaul holding a 35-27 advantage at halftime.

A 12-2 run over the first four minutes of the second half increased the lead to 18 points at 47-29. The Pirates answered by scoring the next seven points before the two teams traded baskets over a five-minute stretch.

Holding a 55-44 advantage, DePaul saw Seton Hall reel off five straight points with Heta Korpivaara's three-pointer with 5:52 left in the game making the score 55-49.

Coming out of a time out, the Blue Demons converted two steals off full-court pressure into baskets by Rubino and Khara Smith to build the cushion to 10 points at 59-49.

In the final three minutes, Seton Hall could get no closer than 12 points as Smith, Rachael Carney and Quigley combined to knock down eight free throws.

Smith and Quigley led DePaul (17-2, 4-2 BIG EAST) with 18 points each while Rubino added 17 points. Erin Carney pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds while Smith added nine boards.

Monique Blake led Seton Hall with 13 points and was followed by Shantel Brown and Korpivaara with 10 points each.

The Blue Demons return to the DePaul Athletic Center for a pair of BIG EAST games this week. Louisville comes to Chicago on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game before No. 5 Connecticut visits the DePaul Athletic Center on Saturday at 7 p.m. DePaul owns the nation's second-longest home-court winning streak at 32 straight games.

Game Notes: The 20 three-pointers in the last games are the most in two straight games this season… in the six games prior to the last two games, the team combined for just 22 three's… Erin Carney's 11 rebounds matched a season high… DePaul men's basketball great Clyde "The Glide" Bradshaw was in attendance… the series is now tied at 1-1 with each team winning on the road.
