Blue Demons Top Bearcats, 68-53

CHICAGO – The No. 17/15 DePaul Blue Demons snapped a three-game skid with a 68-53 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday night at the DePaul Athletic Center. It was the 49th consecutive home win over an unranked opponent for the Blue Demons as they have won 52 of their last 54 home games.

Trailing 12-9, the Blue Demons scored 11 straight points and held the Bearcats scoreless for nearly six minutes. In the process, the home team built a 20-12 lead halfway through the first half.

After the two teams traded baskets for four consecutive possessions, Erin Carney hit back-to-back buckets off the glass to give DePaul 10-point advantage at 26-16 with just over six minutes left until halftime.

Erin Cattell and Holly Medley put together consecutive three-pointers and the Blue Demons found themselves up by 14 points as the period came to a close. Over the final three minutes, Cincinnati managed two free throws and two jumpers by Emy Ogide to close the deficit at intermission to 10 points at 34-24.

Four minutes into the second half, a Quigley layup put the Blue Demons ahead 43-30 before the visitors stormed back with six straight points. A pair of free throws by Cattell ended the Bearcat flurry and put DePaul ahead, 45-36, with 13:28 left in the game.

Cincinnati (14-7, 4-6 BIG EAST) would get no closer than seven points as the Blue Demons built a 13-point lead on a Khara Smith layup with 7:43 left in the game. In the final two minutes, the lead grew as high as 16 points on two occasions and settled at 68-53 on a Jenna Rubino bucket at the buzzer.

Quigley led DePaul (19-5, 6-5 BIG EAST) with 18 points and five assists while Khara Smith added 17 points and 10 boards. Cattell turned in a solid game with a dozen points and a career-high eight rebounds. The Blue Demons combined to block eight shots, including a pair of blocks each for Smith, Claudette Towers and Lauren Levine.

Treasure Humphries led the Bearcats with 16 points and four assists followed by Michelle Jones' double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds.
