Blue Demons Land No. 4 Seed in NCAA Tourney

CHICAGO – The DePaul women's basketball team earned a program-best No. 4 seed in the San Antonio Regional of the 2006 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship it was announced by the NCAA on Monday evening. The Blue Demons take on 13th-seeded Liberty in the first round at the Allstate Arena on Saturday night.

DePaul and Liberty meet for the second time in as many years in NCAA Championship play. The Flames knocked off the Blue Demons, 89-77, in the second round a year ago in College Park, Md. Liberty, a No. 13 seed, upset fourth-seeded Penn State before defeating the fifth-seeded Blue Demons in the 2005 Chattanooga Regional. The Flames earned the automatic bid for the Big South Conference and this season's appearance is their 10th straight.

This year's NCAA Championship appearance is the 11th in program history and the fourth straight for DePaul. The winner of the DePaul-Liberty matchup takes on the winner of the No. 5 North Carolina State-No. 12 Tulsa game on Monday night. The Wolfpack and Golden Hurricane square off 30 minutes after DePaul and Liberty in the Saturday night evening session.

As one of eight hosts, the Allstate Arena features four teams from the Bridgeport Regional on Saturday afternoon. No. 4 Michigan State and No. 13 Wisconsin-Milwaukee open NCAA action for the Chicago site followed by No. 5 Kentucky and No. 12 Chattanooga. The winners of each of the four games meet on Monday evening with a berth into their respective regional semifinals at stake.
