Khara Smith Chosen in 3rd Round of WNBA Draft

CHICAGO - Three-time All-American Khara Smith was selected in the third round of Wednesday's WNBA draft by the San Antonio Silver Stars. Her selection marks the second consecutive year that a DePaul player has been picked by a WNBA franchise following Jenni Dant's selection by the Houston Comets last year.

Smith was the 30th overall pick and the second selection of the third round. Smith could start her professional career on the same court that her collegiate career ended as the Silver Stars play at the AT&T Center in San Antonio. In her final collegiate game, a 66-56 loss to LSU in the NCAA Tournament, she tallied her 77th career double-double with 13 points and a career-high 20 rebounds. In her career, she totaled 2,241 points and 1,369 rebounds while shooting .592 from the field.

The Silver Stars open training camp later this month and play the first of three presesaon games on Saturday, May 6 against Washington in Wichita, Kan. The regular season opens on Sunday, May 21 at Houston. San Antonio is scheduled to play the Chicago Sky at the UIC Pavilion on Saturday, June 17. The 2006 season marks the 10th anniversary of the WNBA.
