National Hoops Guru Talks about Will Walker

While in Chicago for the Roundball Classic All-Star game, national basketball recruiting guru Bob Gibbons of the Bob Gibbons All Star Report talked with us about future DePaul Blue Demon and Bolingbrook, Illinois High school point guard Will Walker.

"I think Will Walker is the ideal point guard for (DePaul coach) Jerry Wainwright," said Gibbons. "He has an excellent basketball IQ. He's an outstanding three point shooter. He can penetrate and make plays."

The 6-0 guard averaged 30 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists per game at Bolingbrook. Walker is currently ranked as the 13th-best point guard and 78th-best overall player in the Class of 2006 by Scout.com.

Gibbons rates Walker high among the top point guards in the class of 2006. "To me if you look at all the point guards in the country, he's got to be among the top six," evaluated Gibbons. "In this game (the Roundball Classic), I think that he and Mike Conley II are very comparable. It's ironic that Conley will be a freshman at Ohio State next year while Will's at DePaul. They are both guys that are going to be in college probably four years. They'll get better each year. They are going to be an extension of the coach on the court and that's really all you can ask for in a point guard. You can't play off them, because they can both shoot the ball."

Gibbons, who saw Walker play in his Tournament of Champions last year, feels that Walker did not get the recruiting attention that he deserved. "With Will Walker, I'm amazed that more schools both nationally and around the Midwest did not recruit him," Gibbons commented. "I've got him rated among the top 50 players in this class."
