Deirdre Naughton to Transfer to DePaul

Wake Forest freshman guard Deirdre Naughton will transfer to DePaul University to play for coach Doug Bruno's Blue Demons according to a Chicago Sun-Times report. Naughton will sit out for one year and will be eligible for the 2007-08 season. She will have three years of eligibility remaining.

Deirdre is a 5-10 guard from Winnetka, Illinois who averaged 21 points per game, four assists per game and four steals per game for the New Trier Trevians in her senior year of high school.

Naughton played in 28 games for Wake Forest averaging 15 points and 5.5 rebounds per game.

Deirdre was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Week in February after scoring 20 or more points in back-to-back games. For that week, Naughton averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game, and shot 10-for-25 from the field (40 percent). Naughton was 7-for-15 (46.7 percent) from 3-point range, and was 15-for-16 (93.8) percent from the free throw line.

Naughton was ranked as the 33rd ranked recruit by the Blue Star Report coming out of New Trier and was named the 2005 Player of the Year by the Chicago Sun-Times. Naughton was a third team Parade Magazine All-American.
