McCamey Takes Two Unofficial Visits

St. Joseph's High and Illinois Wolves AAU point guard Demetri McCamey visited two schools in the last week. McCamey is ranked 81st in the class of 2007 by In this report discover where Demetri took his unofficial visits. We also get his feedback on the two visits as well as his future plans.

On the evening of June 14th, Demetri McCamey and his mother visited the Lincoln Park campus of DePaul University. Overall McCamey enjoyed his visit. "DePaul was real nice," said McCamey. "Coach (Jerry) Wainwright explained that he really needed a guard to help out his wing players, since what he has right now is a bunch of wing players and Will Walker. He's looking for a big strong point guard that can come in and play right away and help Will Walker in the backcourt."

McCamey is familiar with Walker, the incoming freshman for the Blue Demons. "I know him real well," Demetri stated. "Last year we played on the same AAU team – the Illinois Wolves. So we know each other pretty good."

Since McCamey lives in west suburban Chicago, this wasn't his first visit to the DePaul University campus. "I went down there a lot of times for open gyms," said the 6-4 point guard.

Overall McCamey was pleased with his visit. "I like DePaul a lot," expressed Demetri. "(Wainwright) was telling me that I'd be the poster boy, like how Dee Brown was at Illinois."

The next day June 15th, McCamey and his AAU coach Mike Mullins drove to Bloomington, Indiana to visit the campus of Indiana University. "That went real well," said McCamey. "I met the president of the school. That was nice. He was talking about how he'd challenge me to a weightlifting contest. That was pretty good. He's a real cool guy."

Demetri had an opportunity to meet with IU coach Kelvin Sampson and tour the Bloomington campus. "I talked to Coach Sampson for about an hour and a half," said McCamey. "He was in his office showing me all the Big XII rings he won and the Final Four ring. After that I met with the players. AJ Ratliff came back from playing overseas. He was telling me about the great tradition there. I've been hearing that all year from (St. Joes Assistant) Coach Darryl Thomas, he went there back in the day."

McCamey talked about how he would fit in with the Hoosiers program. "Coach Sampson said that he hasn't offered another point guard in my class besides me," said Demetri. "That's how much he loves me. He hopes that I commit and after that I'd help them with recruiting."

This week Demetri will attend the NBA Players Association camp in Richmond, Virginia. He still has one school that he'd like to visit unofficially. "After the NBA camp this week, I'm going to try to visit Michigan."

At this point, McCamey does have some favorites as well as some new offers. "In my top five I have Wake Forest, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and DePaul. My coach told me earlier that I have ten offers from the ACC schools. That's everybody but North Carolina and Duke."
