Taylor Pikes: Happy to be a Blue Demon

DePaul Blue Demons coach Doug Bruno recently picked up his first commitment of the recruiting class of 2007. 6-1 junior Taylor Pikes from Martin Luther King High school in Chicago has decided to play collegiately at DePaul University. Pikes plays for Derril Kipp and the Illinois Hustle on the girls national AAU circuit. The Blue Demons have one more scholarship remaining in the class of 2007.

Overall, Pikes is pleased with her decision. "I feel good about it," said Taylor. "I think I made a good decision. I've been following the program since my freshman year. It's close to home. I like the coaches and the players."

Pikes never really seriously considered playing anywhere but DePaul. "I think she was pretty much settled on DePaul for the last two or three years," said Derril Kipp. "A lot of the kids that played with our AAU program also are at DePaul. I know she gets along with them well. She understands what is going to happen at DePaul with what kind of game they play and the kind of kids they have. I think she fits in real well with them. I'm really happy for her."

Taylor Pikes has skill sets that appear to fit Bruno's uptempo system well. "Taylor brings a lot of athleticism," Kipp said. "She's a player that can play the three or the four. She handles the ball very well. She's an excellent rebounder and plays the game with a lot of heart. She's the kind of player that runs the floor well and finishes on the break. She can actually make other players better because of her passing ability, on the perimeter even."
